Kathryn Bucher Hanlon (Sigma Kappa-Ohio State) earned her B.S. in dietetics in 1970, her M.S. in nutrition science from Cornell and her MBA from the University of Connecticut. She enjoyed a 43-year career in clinical dietetics as a practitioner, educator and mentor. “When I went through recruitment at Ohio State, the Kappa Deltas were the nicest and most welcoming,” she says. “I felt at home.”
To ensure that the Kappa Delta Foundation continues to help women be their best selves for generations to come, Katy has designated KD as a beneficiary of her retirement account. “Being part of an organization that introduces collegiates to philanthropy, friendship and organizational skills is important to me,” she says. “I’ve gained many friendships and met women that I likely never would have known except for KD.”
Katy remains involved with KD through her service. “I have been on two Chapter Advisory Boards (CABs) — at the University of Connecticut and at Quinnipiac University,” she says. “I was also involved with the Greater Hartford, Connecticut, Alumnae Chapter for many years as secretary and president, and I am still a member.”
With her gift, Katy hopes to help Kappa Delta continue to evolve and remain relevant in an ever-changing world. “Membership in KD can be a meaningful and inspirational part of members’ lives, just as it has been for me,” she says. “I would love to be a part of that continuing long into the future.”
Katy encourages others to consider the legacies they could leave to support KD’s future. “Never underestimate what you can do for our Kappa Delta,” she concludes. “Even a small amount of support can make a difference.”
