Peri Andrus Sexton (Epsilon Phi-California/Santa Barbara) owes much to being a KD, which is why her family trust includes support for the Kappa Delta Foundation and an endowed scholarship.
A California native, Peri discovered KD as she was preparing to start school at the University of California, Santa Barbara. That led to meeting her lifelong best friend, which led to meeting her future husband, their two children and her career.
“It sounds cliché, but I have everything in my life because I joined Kappa Delta,” Peri says.
Now, with the help of her husband Bill, Peri is giving back to KD through a trust that includes a gift to the foundation and support for an endowed collegiate scholarship aimed at helping future Golden State KDs afford college.
“Going to school in California is expensive, and being part of a sorority is a choice. And it can be one of the first things to go when money gets tight. I want to help women not to have to make that choice,” Peri says.
A recipient of the Order of the Emerald for her service to Kappa Delta, Peri has never stopped serving KD—but the blessings have gone both ways, she notes. She urges fellow alumnae to include the foundation in their estate plans.
“It’s super easy to set up something in your estate plan,” Peri says. “If KD meant something to you, giving to the KD Foundation is an easy answer.”
